**This post is sponsored by Skin By Lovely. All thoughts, opinions and experiences are 100% my own.** Hi guys! Today I want to share my experience with fillers- specifically, lip fillers!
First, let’s talk a little background. Growing up, I hated the shape of my upper lip. My bottom lip was always nice and full, but my top lip… not so much. It was not only super thin, but curved downward in the middle, resembling what I affectionately call a “beak.” Ha!
When I was 24, I finally decided enough was enough. I found a nurse injectionist who came highly recommended and saw her for two rounds of lip fillers. And honestly, it was a bust. Not only did I not see a big difference, but I ended up with lumps and a pocket of filler underneath my top lip (called the mucosa). Later on, I saw a wonderful local plastic surgeon who used a cannula technique and my upper lip was looking bomb!
Then a few months later I got pregnant… and again 15 months later… and fast forward to 16 months postpartum with my second, I got the opportunity to receive lip fillers at Skin By Lovely.
Let me share with you a little bit about this wonderful clinic. They have three locations: 1) Santa Monica, CA, 2) Portland, OR and 3) Lake Oswego, OR. My experience was with Lyndsey at the Lake Oswego location.
Fast forward to the day of treatment: my nerves were through the roof! You’d think that since this wasn’t my first rodeo I’d be fine, but I had so many worries going through my head. How good was their pain prevention? Were they going to tell me my top lip was doomed forever? Was I a selfish mom for even caring about this stuff?!
We’ll get to all of that, but first let’s discuss first impressions. The Skin By Lovely Lake Oswego office is located in a suite inside a business building quite close to Washington Square mall. When I first walked inside, all I could say was wow. Their interior decor is stunning. Just take a look- who wouldn’t feel right at ease when walking in? They obviously care about aesthetics, so that was incredibly reassuring to me.
First, they took before photos of me from all sides. Once I was taken back to the procedure room, Lyndsey came in. I’ll be the first to admit I was a bit hesitant about putting my “difficult” lips in the hands of someone I didn’t know much about (except that they are part of a wonderful clinic), but guys, all of that changed. Not only did she spend a good 30 minutes just going over my medical history and addressing my concerns, she was incredibly warm and friendly! I immediately felt at ease.
Then came procedure time. In the past, I’d only gotten lip fillers done by dental block, so I was panicking when she said they only used topical numbing creams. And here’s where I’ll be transparent with you: it wasn’t as strong as I was hoping for. I squeezed the crap out of a stress ball several times, but overall, I’d say the pain level was about a 4/10. So not nonexistent like with a block, but definitely manageable! And this is coming from someone with an incredibly low pain tolerance/fear of needles.
When we were done, I got a look in the mirror and immediately loved what I saw. LOVED! Although I still have a few treatments left before I get my lips to their ideal size, I’d say they’re coming along quite nicely. We did talk about how I do unfortunately have a “difficult lip shape,” but I was so happy to hear that there is room for so much improvement! And the best part is I didn’t bruise at all. They were even so sweet to send me home with a goodie bag of skin and makeup goodies! Such a nice touch.
RIGHT AFTER INJECTIONS
So for the first round of lip fillers Lyndsey used 0.8 ml of Restylane on me, then I came back about 3 weeks later to get the remaining .20 ml, for a total of 1 ml. I’m thinking I will probably need to come back an additional 2-3 times to get my upper lip to where I want it.
Take a look at my before and after photos below, and tell me, have you ever tried fillers? Would you or wouldn’t you? If you’re in the market, I highly recommend Skin By Lovely! Now I understand why everyone I’d spoken with previously said they had such great experiences there!
