Ahhhh long eyelashes- we women go crazy for you! Have you ever found yourself wishing for longer eyelashes? If you’re anything like me (and every other woman on the planet), you’ve probably found yourself googling magical serums and remedies for hours.
Well, let’s discuss this further with a bit more backstory on my end. False eyelashes have been my go-to for years, and when I got pregnant with my first son, I opted for eyelash extensions. Unfortunately, my eyelids weren’t having it, but I was in such denial and desperate for ready-to-go eyelashes that I persisted three times. Each time, my eyelids came away redder, angrier and balder.
I’d finally decided to invest in some serums that promised amazing results when I got pregnant with my second son. So… that also became a no-go, and I was left with severe eyelash frustration. After switching to essential oils for all of our household needs, I began researching the properties of certain oils and was intrigued to discover that several help promote eyelash growth and conditioning. SCORE.
Lavender and lemon both contain natural antiseptic and conditioning properties, and lavender in particular has been linked to eyelash growth. In fact, you could even add a drop to your tube of mascara!
Not only that, but it turns out several other common household oils contain amazing properties for eyelash growth as well. And I have to say that after using this blend for barely a month, I have already noticed my eyelashes growing in thicker and longer than before.
SO- here’s everything you’ll need to make this easy, DIY eyelash serum (which should last a long time):
- Roller bottle
- Mascara brushes
- Lavender essential oil
- Lemon essential oil
- Castor oil
- Fractionated coconut oil
First, fill the roller bottle with 1/2 castor oil and 1/2 fractionated coconut oil, adding 1 drop each of lavender and lemon essential oils. Make sure you are using a quality essential oil! They are not all created equal. My brand of choice is Young Living because of their Seed to Seal guarantee.
Then, you can either dip the mascara wand directly into the bottle, or you can do what I do and gently roll the blend directly onto your eyelashes, avoiding eye contact. Use a mascara brush to evenly disperse the blend throughout your eyelashes once daily before bedtime.
And there you have it! An easy, natural, and effective alternative to chemically-ridden serums and eyelash extensions. Try it out for yourself and let me know- I’d love to know your thoughts!
